What should I do with a pregnant
bridesmaid?
First, consider whether or not she really wants to be
in the wedding. Sometimes women are hesitant to say anything,
for fear of hurting the bride’s feelings, but they
would really rather have a different role such as guest
book attendant. Once you are sure she wants to be in the
wedding consider a maternity style if she will be beyond
her 4th month. These are not particularly fashion forward,
but they can be in the same fabric and color and will
be easier to size and wear. It is very hard to guess the
correct size for someone who will be in the last trimester
and wearing a regular style. It is often very expensive
to alter a regular style to accommodate a pregnant body.
Maternity styles are definitely the way to go; less expensive
and more comfortable.
Should I let the bridesmaids choose
their own styles?
It is important to consider body types and what styles
would be attractive on each, but too many styles can look
too busy. If your attendants have similar body types it
will look more formal if they are all in the same style.
This is especially true for large parties with over 4
attendants. Many brides have chosen 2 or 3 styles that
coordinate well and then told each maid what style she
was to wear, usually based on her body type. On the other
hand, if you have a great variety of body types, the best
option may be to let each choose their own style. It works
best to have each maid get the bride’s approval
before the final choice is made. It wouldn’t be
appropriate to have one maid in a ball gown and another
in a tea-length pencil skirt. With good planning and the
bride’s involvement, this is often the best solution
for parties with a variety of types and sizes.
When do I need to order my bridesmaid
dresses?
Bridesmaid dresses can take up to twelve weeks to arrive
from the designer. It is a good idea to begin the search
for your bridesmaid dresses as soon as you have chosen
your gown. Ideally, we would like your bridesmaids to
receive their dresses six to eight weeks before the wedding
so they have ample time for any necessary alterations.
This would mean ordering your bridesmaid dresses approximately
18-20 weeks before the wedding.
Should I let my bridesmaids choose
their own dresses?
We often have brides choose a specific designer, fabric,
and color and then let each bridesmaid choose a dress
that she prefers as long as it is in the correct fabric
and color. We are happy to coordinate your attendant party
if you would like to offer this as an option for them.
It can be helpful, if you have bridesmaids that vary in
their height and size. However, it is entire up to you,
the bride, which way you would prefer. We will coordinate
your attendant party beautifully, which ever way to choose
to outfit your attendants.
My bridesmaids all live out of
town. How do I get matching dresses for them?
We are happy to coordinate your entire bridesmaid party,
no matter where they live. In fact, I can’t remember
the last time we had a party where everyone lives in Denver.
We have a Bride’s Guide to Ordering Bridesmaid Dresses
information packet that we can either email to you, or
you can pick up a copy when you are in our salon. This
explains the entire process for coordinating your bridemaids
order. We will be helping you every step of the way.
Does my maid or matron of honor
need to wear something different than the other bridesmaids?
No, however, some brides like to distinguish their maid
or matron of honor from the other bridesmaids by having
her in a different style or color, or giving her unique
accessories to wear. What ever you decide is perfectly
acceptable and entirely up to you!
How do I know what size to order for my flower girl since
little kids grow so fast?
We generally take the size that the little one is measuring
at the time we place the order, and order one size bigger
in anticipation of their growth. Children do not like
their clothes to fit too tightly, so we like to error
on the side of being a little loose.
Do you ever have sales on Mother
of the Wedding attire?
We actually offer a discount of 10% off of the all attendants
attire when the bride purchases her gown at our salon.
This discount includes bridesmaids, flower girls, and
Mothers.
Is is OK for my Mom to wear a long
dress when my bridesmaids are wearing tea length?
Traditional etiquette would probably say no, but we are
finding that traditional etiquette rules are meant to
be bent a little. If the wedding is in the late afternoon
or evening, it would most certainly be appropriate for
your Mom to wear a long gown, unless your gown was tea
length too. If the wedding is in the morning, it is probably
more appropriate for your Mom to wear a suit with a shorter
skirt. But truly, if you and your Mom are happy with her
gown choice and she feels beautiful, it really shouldn’t
matter.
Can Mother’s wear black to
their daughter’s wedding?
Of course. Black is perfectly appropriate and elegant.
We are seeing more and more Mother’s wear black.
However, just because Mom’s can wear black, doesn’t
mean that they are comfortable wearing black to their
daughter’s wedding. Again, choose what ever makes
you both feel comfortable and beautiful!
Is it OK to have an uneven number
of bridesmaids and groomsmen?
Sure! We are seeing men standing on the women’s
side, women standing on the men’s side, and uneven
numbers on both sides all of the time. Have the people
you want to have with you on your special day regardless
of their sex, or the symmetry when you are standing at
the alter. |
